Arista Announces Industry's Highest Density Auto-Negotiating 10GBASE-T Switches
Menlo Park, CA, May 12, 2009 - Arista Networks today announced the industry's highest density 10GBASE-T switches in a 1U form factor. The Arista 7100T layer 2/3 switches include 24 and 48-port models. Each model offers auto-negotiating 1/10GBASE-T ports with standard RJ-45 connectors and SFP+ uplink ports. Positioned for data center server access, the 7100T switches offer backwards compatibility with standard Gigabit Ethernet cabling and investment protection as customers migrate from Gigabit to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The Arista 7100T switches are a virtualization enabler and can accommodate network service integration with the Arista Extensible Operating System. (EOS)
"As customers consolidate servers across their datacenter, the demand for networking bandwidth grows tremendously." said Andy Bechtolsheim, Chief Development Officer at Arista. "The new high-density 7100 Series 10GBASE-T switches are ideal for server connections since they enable a seamless transition from 1 to 10 Gigabit Ethernet without requiring new cabling."
The Arista 7100T switches support 10GBASE-T over Category 6a cabling up to 100m, but also support Category 5e and Category 6 cabling with distances up to 55m. This allows for investment protection with existing cabling plants.
With Arista 7100T switches and 10GBASE-T adapters from companies such as Intel, high-speed server connectivity once reserved for costly, proprietary technologies such as High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters and grid-based computing can now be achieved with standardized connectivity options in datacenters of all sizes.
"Arista 7100T switches and the Intel 10 Gigabit AT Server Adapter provide customers with an affordable, high performing 10 Gigabit solution for virtualized datacenters," said Tom Swinford, Vice President and General Manager of Intel's LAN Access Division. "Intel Ethernet adapters are optimized for both VMWare and Windows 7 Hyper-V to meet the bandwidth and performance needs of virtualized servers. 10GBASE-T will help accelerate the volume deployment of 10GbE in volume rack and tower servers by providing high-speed network performance at much lower price points than that of fiber."
"Arista Networks has the only switch on the market today with 48 10GbE ports in a 1RU form factor in their 7100T switch -- it's an unparalleled 10GbE port density," stated Michael Howard, Principal Analyst, Infonetics Research. "Because their 10GBASE-T switches fit into existing cabling schemes, their data center customers can easily upgrade their networks to support virtualization, iSCSI, and converged business applications over standard Ethernet as they move their server connections to 10GbE."
The Arista 7100T switches use Arista EOS which gives customers access to Linux tools, extensible network services and allows for integration with 3rd party applications. EOS is a multi-process state sharing architecture that completely separates networking state from processing itself. When combined with self healing (Stateful Fault Repair) and In-Service Software Upgrades (ISSU) features, Arista EOS is an extremely robust operating system designed specifically for the demands of the data center.
The Arista 7100T switches are currently in field trials. Production units will be available in Q3'09. The new switches will be on display at Interop, Las Vegas 2009 (May 17-21) in the Arista Networks booth # 1651.
