ARISTA NETWORKS PRODUCTS WIN BEST OF VMWORLD AWARD
Arista Switch Family with VMTracer/VXLAN Support selected as Best Hardware for Virtualization by Customers, Analysts, and Editors
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — September 6, 2011 – Arista Networks, Inc. the leader in next-generation data center switching for cloud networking, today announced that it has been recognized by VMworld and TechTarget’s SearchServerVirtualization.com as the Best of VMworld 2011 in the Hardware for Virtualization category. The win was based on live demonstrations of Arista's VM Tracer, a capability that is natively integrated into the Arista Extensible Operating System (EOS) and works with the entire Arista 7000 Family of Cloud Networking Switches, and links the Arista switches to VMware's vSphere and vCloud Director creating an adaptive infrastructure whereby the network responds to sensed changes in the virtual machine network. This combination of VXLAN and VM Tracer expands the economic savings of virtualization network wide delivering seamless virtual machine provisioning regardless of compute or storage resource location.
The nominations for the 2011 Best of VMworld Awards were evaluated by a team of expert judges – consisting of editors, independent analysts, consultants and users of VMware. Over 250 candidates vied for Best of VMworld consideration in eight different categories and each year, winners prove to be the key players in the continuing evolution of virtualization technology. Arista’s Extensible Operating System, the world’s most advanced network operating system, is specifically designed to address demanding customer requirements for virtualization, cloud computing, and big data applications. EOS is built on an open framework enabling rapid API integration with Software Defined Networking (SDN) systems such as VXLAN and other controller based systems.
"Building upon the strong partnership between Arista and VMware that began with VM Tracer, Arista and VMware collaborated on the development of VXLAN," stated Allwyn Sequeira, vice president, security and networking solutions at VMware. "Arista's receiving the Best of VMWorld Award for 'Best Hardware for Virtualization' is a testament to innovation and engineering excellence at Arista and the collaboration between VMware and Arista to deliver customers data center networking solutions optimized for virtualization and cloud environments"
EOS with VM Tracer was demonstrated working with the new VXLAN capability that enables stateful VM mobility across Layer-3 router boundaries where Arista creates the links between the physical network and virtual network to automate the provisioning and simplify operations and troubleshooting in a VLAN tunneled environment. VXLAN support is built on top of Arista’s VM Tracer which supports native vSphere and vCloud integration providing VLAN auto-provisioning and enabling fully automated cloud deployments.
“Close collaboration on VXLANS with our customers and engineering team, focused on real-world operational problems always results in useful and practical innovations like VM Tracer and VXLAN,” commented Douglas Gourlay, vice president at Arista Networks. “By focusing on the customer Arista has created the best networking platform for virtualization and cloud computing.”
