EOS-4.20.0F introduces expanded VRRP, VARP and MLAG Peer Gateway virtual MAC capabilities on the 7500R*/7280R*/7020R series because of improved hardware capabilities. Simultaneous support for VRRP, VARP and MLAG Peer Gateway. VARP and MLAG Peer Gateway take priority over VRRP.

Support is added to use VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) virtual IP (Internet Protocol) address as an IPsec ( Internet Protocol Security) tunnel source or destination address. This allows for configurations that offer both security (provided by IPsec tunnels) and redundancy (provided by VRRP).

This feature is used to add VRRP support for local-proxy-arp. Previously, when both ip local-proxy-arp and a VRRP virtual mac address were configured on the same router, when the router received an ARP request with an IP address within the same subnet as the router, the router replied with the physical mac address, while the expected behavior is to reply with the virtual mac address for the ARP sender MAC, while for Ethernet Source MAC, using virtual mac address for VRRP v2, using physical mac address for VRRP v3. This feature is designed to fill this gap.

In EOS 4.25.2F release, VRRP support is enabled on the following platforms,. DCS 7280R3. DCS 7500R3.

This feature allows the VRRP MAC and IP to be advertised via EVPN MAC-IP routes when VRRP is configured on the VTEP.
